Radical Archives

Radical Archives
Anne Plumb, Independent Scholar

The issues I wish to raise about ‘radical archives’ in the making with references and quotations from, in particular.

* Nicholas Hervey 1987. Folly or Advocacy. The Alleged Lunatics Friend Society 1845-1863

* CAPS 2010. Oor Mad History. A Community History of the Lothian Mental Health Service user movement.

* Tony Baldwinson 2016 (draft). Disabled peoples’ Organisations and their Archives

* Survivors take a critical look at historians in ‘ Marian Barnes and Phil Cotteril (2011) Critical perspectives on the User Movement.

My aim is to draw attention to the other side of the fence in the researcher/researched, holder/preserver of grassroots archives and some of the tensions along with a v brief mention of the internet and social media – opportunities and drawbacks.
