Remembering: documents of life

Remembering documents of life

Publishing this blog has been held over, so that yesterdays Saturday 5 June,  event commemorating the work and life of Ken Plummer could be accommodated. This was both a sad and a joyous occasion, and his work was celebrated by many people touching on many different aspects of his contributions. And of particular note for the whites writing whiteness project is his contribution to thinking about documents of life, that minutiae of both everyday and exceptional signs and symbols. This is so absolutely fascinating because offering many clues as to past lives and behaviours, and Ken’s contribution to thinking about methodological aspects of this was truly groundbreaking. Not perfect, and in many ways now overtaken, but subsequent work could not have occurred without his initial contribution. Details of the remembering conference will be found on the University of Essex, sociology webpages
