The Killie Campbell collections cover a wide a range of manuscript records regarding the history of Zululand and Natal, including the papers of important families and individuals and a range of organisations. Most collections are open to researchers without restriction. The Library has digitised many Manuscript finding aids, while paper copies of the full Inventories for its collections are available in the Library.

There is a comprehensive and fully searchable online catalogue for all the Killie Campbell manuscripts collections. This can be accessed online from anywhere, not just while in the Library.  It requires reader-registration but is otherwise free to access and use and is an invaluable source for researchers. There is additional information about key collections available in the paper Inventories, but thumbnails sketches of contents and an indication of the focus, temporal span and size of the collections is provided by the online information, enabling detailed preparation before any planned visit.
