Pringling!

Pringling!

For the last two weeks or so it’s been all hands to the decks in getting the medium-sized Pringle collection data in good enough order that I can set about writing an article connected with it, and also so it can be delivered to HRI in Sheffield to become part of the project’s VRE (and for the VRE, see the relevant Overview pages). As a consequence, Emilia has been whizzing though thousands of Jpegs and adding information about them to records in the Pringle databases, as well as recording some specific data about the use of terms connected with ‘race’ and ethnicity and also organisational connections. And I have preceded her with vast quantities of ‘data cleaning’ – checking names are consistent, correcting typos, writing summaries of letters and so on, as well as recording verbatim extracts. The collection has around 1200 letters and other documents in it, some extremely long, with the largest being 166 pp. As a consequence we are a small but diligent factory! Oh – the article? Well, it’s still at gestation stage, so I’ll say more when it’s hatched, which hopefully will be in two or three weeks.
