Leaving no stone unturned!

Leaving no stone unturned!

The things I do in the name of research are many and varied. Recently duty has required me to buy and drink a very palatable South African wine, in fact a number of bottles, as the label on the first one was smudged and it was the label I was after. The wine, a blend, is badged as ‘The Post Stones’ and its reverse-side label provides the comment that English sailors of the 17th century en route to the Indies used to put their letters home under particular stones or boulders on South African shores, for the next passing revictualling ship’s sailors going in the other direction to collect and take responsibility for delivering. I don’t normally drink blends, but duty did indeed call!
